The opening scene with K and Morton was meant to be in the original but Scott had to cut it. That’s probably why it has familiar beats.
I think this movie is about emotion and memory so the story side of it is not hugely important to me
It’s about K finding out what it means to be human, only to discover, at the end, that he’s not and makes the ultimate sacrifice to make sure Deckard meets his daughter. The scene of K lying in the snow at the end as the Tears in Rain theme plays and then seeing a father and daughter reunited after everything, always gets me.
Went to see it in IMAX when it was released and, as you say, it looks incredible. I have a poster of K walking into Vegas framed on my wall. Roger Deakins does a great job in capturing, and building on, the look of the original
I think Joi and K’s relationship works but the scene at the end shows him it was all a lie. That’s why he knows he has to save Deckard to prove to himself, if no one else, it was all worth it
Anyway, could ramble on for ages, but thanks again for writing a great article 👍🏼
Really enjoyed this Steven 👍🏼
Even if I do disagree with a few bits! 😁

Thanks!
Good point about K's sacrifice.
The scenes of K walking into Vegas are truly stunning.
And one thing is for certain about film (really, art in general) criticism, there is always going to be a few bits of disagreement! ;)
Hot take: replicants as immigrants.
Solid review. I also like how this closely resembles cyberpunk 2077.
I remember a couple years ago when my Dad told me he finally watched Blade Runner and thought it was just average, I was actually kinda sad about it
