I am not enough of a ST fan to have much to say about this other than: Good work!

I will note that I am not surprised that that particular episode of DS9 rates so highly, though it is a bit odd that it rates higher than TOS's "The Trouble With Tribbles"

Two crews for the price of one, I guess? ;)

IMO Discovery gets too much undeserved criticism. I'd argue the first season was the Michael Burnham show, and it failed to flesh out any of the secondary characters. And this even when it had a longer season than most new shows get. But it was a rather good story

The fourth season was rather blah in many ways. And the big reveal near the end made little sense even as fan service. the pan-progenitor aliens were not well received in TNG when they first appeared (in an ep that was DISCO season 4 in brief, too). And it ended with one of the biggest reset buttons in Trek history.

But I must wonder if the deep dislike has anything to do with the fact the protagonist is a black woman.

There is no doubt in my mind that part of the criticisms DISCO gets is because the lead is a Black woman. And I agree that some of the criticism is undeserved.

Having said that, I think you are conflating season 4 and season 5. Season 4, the lowest rated, and personally my least favorite season, was about the DMA. While I actually like the conclusion, the story itself was not great, IMO. Season 5 was about the pan-progenitor aliens from TNG.

I will admit that s4 and s5 felt similar. But also, DISCO had a bad habit of making each season into some universe-destroying menace, which was a little tiresome after a while. It worked best in s2, IMO.

The whole bit about The Burn and what it ended up being in s3 was a bit eye-rolling and took what could have been a truly interesting storyline that just became a meh quest with a dumb solution.

oops. Got those confused, and for some reason I thought there were only 4 seasons...

My main criticism of DCISO is the magical mystery mushroom drive. I grant they put it to good use, in all seasons, but the idea is ridiculous. The worst part is no one ever ever develops it or uses it again over the many, many Trek series and movies (something they did tot he protostar drive in Prodigy, too).

Agreed on the spore drive (and the protostar has a similar problem, agreed).
