Of the many old science fiction shows, Blake's 7 has got the potential to shine if handled well as a reboot. I'm willing to give it a go. It also fits in with the current zeitgeist so I can see modern audiences hooking into the story of a few desperate people fighting against a monolithic repressive regime.
I just want them to respect the characters and stories, not turn it into a “modern interpretation”. While the original show was not perfect it never talked down to the audience. It expected the audience could keep up with what’s going on. I think the dynamic between Blake and Avon would be key, I always saw them as the flip sides of the same coin. Taking influence from Andor would be good, less episodic and more defined story arcs.
Solid breakdown of what a reboot needs to get right. The point about showing the Federation's actual scale is crucial because the original's budget limitations made it feel less like an empire and more like a small office. Avon's arc from cynic to believer works best when there's somthing tangible to believe in, which means the rebellion can't just be implied offscreen anymore.
It's an intriguing idea. The Doctor Who reboot was massively popular because it recognised the original series' premise but at the same time brought a more modern aspect to appeal to 21st century audiences. The trick will be to retain what is "core" B7, so I guess that means Blake, Avon, Jenna and Vila. There would have to be a couple of new faces to keep some mystery though. All the lead actors would be contracted in for however long they mean the series to last, so the new Blake wouldn't be able to jump spaceship halfway through the run. I think I'd be happy as long as the original premise was kept, and Servalan and Travis turned up, and - crucially - the stories were good. But I do think us old-school fans would have to brace ourselves for some inevitable differences given that it's now fifty years later and the world has changed. I'll give it a fair go as and when they make it. We've heard rumours before, but there's never been a more welcoming TV environment than now surely? And who knows, we may finally get that Daleks crossover story...
I just think in today's fairly dystopic world and with enough similar scifi out there, it won't stand apart as it did back then. And of course it shouldn't be Americanised or shoved into 6 episodes...
A subtle detail I would like in a reboot, that would be eminently more affordable now, is a lack of artificial gravity on Federation ships. I think that could recapture a sense of awe when first boarding Liberator.

I’m in! Hopefully it can lean into the intergalactic politics, hoping for a grittier Andor vibe?
I am definitely hoping for an Andor vibe! (but that is a tall order, to be sure!).
I agree - if Kerr Avon isn’t right, then the show isn’t right. Servalan matters, as does Vila. But a bad Kerr Avon is a dealbreaker.

No, leave it alone. Go and think up something new.
